Welcome to John Merryman's Railroad Picture Archives!

Front Page Pic Welcome to the RRPictureArchives.NET contributor site of John Merryman.

Thank you for visiting my railroad photos page. I am someone who enjoys taking photographs of railway equipment and I have a particular interest in CN, CP, and BNSF equipment since these three railroads are easily seen in my area. Two of my favorite places to watch trains are Colebrook which is located in Surrey B.C., and Deltaport Vancouver which is located in Delta, B.C.

Colebrook is a junction where the BNSF mainline (that runs North/South between Blaine WA, and Vancouver B.C.) and the B.C. Rail Port Subdivision meet. The B.C. Rail Port Sub is an East/West mainline for intermodal and coal traffic headed to Deltaport Vancouver and Westshore Terminals which are both located at Roberts Bank in Delta B.C. Colebrook is easily accessible to railfans as the railway mainline runs adjacent to a public road (Colebrook Rd.) and there is a public park and various trails in the area.

CN, CP, trains that are most commonly seen in the area include double stack container trains and unit coal trains. The B.C. Rail Port Sub serves two major customers - Deltaport Vancouver (Intermodal) and Westshore Terminals (Coal). There is a passing siding at Colebrook so there are plenty of opportunities to catch trains during meets.

The BNSF mainline that originates at the Canada/USA border (Blaine, WA) and extends to Vancouver B.C. is also a very accessible line for railfanning. BNSF runs mostly manifest freight trains through the area, but the occasional BNSF unit coal train destined for Westshore Terminals will make an appearance.

Deltaport is accessible by taking Hwy 17 south from Hwy 99 and then taking the Deltaport exit. Deltaport Way is an East/West two lane paved roadway which runs parallel to the tracks from Hwy 17 the entire way out to the port. There are three main tracks where trains may pause while entering or exiting the port. Many good photo opportunities exist, but as there are limited places to stop and park, please obey the signs on Deltaport Way. Deltaport Way is also a very busy access route for container trucks accessing the port.

At Deltaport Way, there are grade crossings at 57B Street and 41B St. Many of the grade crossings have been upgraded with lights and crossing arms. There is a lot of current construction in the area where some highway overpasses and improvements are being made. These improvements have mainly been a result of increased traffic at the port and the expansion which includes railway upgrades, will be welcomed as train traffic is set to increase to approximately 18 trains per day.

If you have a question or a particular interest in any of my photographs, please feel free to leave a comment or drop me an email at jdwmerryman@gmail.com. Thanks for visiting and enjoy!
